First hike day of the trip.
Autumn in the Alps |
Vacation Planning 2 days in Salzburg, Austria 1 day in Berchtesgaden National Park, Germany 500km drive to Plitvice National Park, Croatia 5 days in Triglav National Park & Julian Alps, Slovenia 2 unplanned hours in Italy 2 days in Ljubljana, Slovenia 2 days in Munich, Germany |
It was 2nd day at Levy’s, we were looking forward to Maria’s breakfast spread. After a good one, we picked the rental car, Nissan Qashqai for the agency near the the train station.
Almbachklamm @ 10am
First hike of the trip. 25mins drive from Salzburg to this wild and beautiful Almbach Gorge in the Berchtesgaden National Park. We started at 10am, hiked to Sulzer waterfall and returned back to starting point by 12.30pm. €8 for adults and €4 for teens.

Jennerbahn & Konigsblick @ 1pm
A 15mins drive to cable car station, Jennerbahn. Snack and coffee break at Zechmeister Bakery & Cafe. Nussecken/German Nut Corners was yummy and food find of the day.
We rode the cable car to the summit mountain station and further hiked up the peak. It took some effort especially after the gorge hike but the high altitude views of Konigsee & Berchtesgaden Alpine National Park were fantastic

Konigsee @ 4pm
After clocking 15000 hiking steps, the calm and serene electric boat ride on Konigsee was relaxing. Deep silence, towering mountains and calm waters is nature’s trifecta of tranquility. The highlight is the famous echo wall- the boatman plays the trumpet & steep rock face echoes back the tune.

Red Bull Hangar 7 @ 7pm
We drove back to Salzburg and made a brief stop at Red Bull Hangar 7 at Salzburg Airport- houses the Flying Bulls aircraft fleet & a collection of planes & cars owned by its Austrian co-founder, Dietrich Mateschitz. I don’t particularly enjoy the drink but I have academic interest for 2 reasons: the psychology of what works & marketing techniques build around extreme adventure. If you don’t know the founding story of Red Bull, it is worth a read.

Conclusion
From the roaring waters of the gorge to the stillness of Konigsee, from the soaring peaks of Jenner summit to the futuristic Red Bull museum, it was an active long day in the outdoors yet well paced out. Total driving distance = 80kms, warming up to a long day of drive the next day.
